“Een enkeltje Venray” (“a one-way ticket to Venray”) was for many years a familiar expression referring to admission to a psychiatric institution. For many, this also meant forced isolation from society. During the twentieth century, Venray developed into the psychiatric centre of Limburg, with separate institutions for men and women. Patients were treated according to the medical understanding of the time, but in the process often lost their individuality and autonomy.
Against this historical backdrop, guest curator Louisa Vergozisi brings together four artists, each exploring identity, consciousness, spirituality and post-humanism from their own artistic practice. Their work demonstrates that the human psyche cannot easily be captured or defined.
The exhibition also raises contemporary questions about what it means to be human at a time when identity is increasingly shaped online, partly through artificial intelligence. What makes us human? One Way Ticket invites visitors to consider the psyche not as a medical object that can be fully explained or controlled, but as an open space in which identity, the body, memory and imagination interact.

PHOTOGRAPHING HANNAH FOR THE BUUN MAGAZINE
15 August 2026
Today I went to Velden to photograph Hanna for the upcoming BUUN magazine.
Before taking out my camera, we sat down and talked. I wanted to meet her first, to hear her story and understand who was sitting in front of me. She let me in, not because I was there as a photographer, but because this is who she is.
There is something very special about meeting people like this. People who, sometimes after years of keeping parts of themselves hidden, allow you into their lives for a moment. I always feel grateful for that trust. Photography gives me an excuse to enter worlds I might otherwise never encounter, and sometimes the meeting itself becomes more important than the photograph.
The story of Hanna, written by Thijs Lenssen and photographed by me, will be published in BUUN in autumn 2026.

IN DE MAAK #1
For the first edition of IN DE MAAK, FLUJAS member Louisa Vergozisi invited artists Antoine Berghs and Don Possen to collaborate in an empty terraced house in Venlo.
“The idea for this collaboration had existed for quite some time. Antoine, Don and I have known each other since 2017, when Antoine was teaching at the art academy and Don and I were students there.
Over the years that followed, there were many conversations, studio visits and exchanges of ideas. There was a clear common thread running through our practices, although it was not always immediately visible, as our work differs considerably at first glance. During the residency, I wanted to literally create a space where we could encounter each other not only through conversation, but also through our work. It felt like the next step in exploring what connects us.
For two and a half months, our work continuously encountered one another within the space. We regularly came together to discuss our processes. Although all three of us are strongly individualistic artists, we challenged ourselves to step outside our comfort zones.
New work emerged through material research, archiving, collecting objects, film, performance, photography, rituals and site-specific installations.
It is still not entirely clear what exactly connects us. One thing is certain: all three of us share a need to explore connections that reach beyond the purely earthly. We would therefore like to continue this collaboration and meet again in the future as part of a shared artistic investigation.”
The IN DE MAAK residency, organised by FLUJAS Collective, offers artists the space to further develop and challenge their autonomous practices. Attention to process, experimentation and artistic research are essential elements of a professional artistic practice.
The second edition of IN DE MAAK will take place in September. This time, FLUJAS member Kim van Dijk will invite two artists for a new residency, once again creating space for encounter, experimentation and the development of new work.
